the city dreams in AI is a workshop and creative experiment exploring how artificial intelligence could be used to imagine futures rooted in local cultures, memories, and everyday urban life. developed as an alternative to dominant science-fiction and cyberpunk visions of AI futures, the workshop invites participants to begin with their own cities, neighbourhoods, sounds, experiences, and observations.
through city drifts, field recordings, photography, storytelling, speculative design exercises, and ethical open-source AI workflows for image, video, and sound generation, participants develop their own situated speculative worlds. the workshop culminates in a public open house where participants showcase short films and audiovisual experiments that combine real-world documentation with AI-generated speculation.
the project explores how emerging technologies can become tools for cultural imagination, allowing communities to envision futures that emerge from their own lived realities rather than inherited technological narratives.
